Our heliflight with Fox Glacier Guides continued as we flew over some dramatic & extraordinary glacial fields.

I was glad we’d taken the first flight out in the morning- better weather & better lighting to see down all the crevasses.

On the edges of the glacier, you could see all the deposited rock sediment that is left when the glacier melts.

Rivers of ice are really cool!

There was even a second glacier up above the Fox Glacier.

The we saw the waterfall. We’ve seen many on the trip already, but none like this!

The helicopter circles around it & banked hard to give us an extreme view of the waterfall plunging down the hole at the glacier’s edge.

It looks like the glacier is simply falling down into the hole too.

We approached the rest of our group, who looked sooo tiny, that were waiting for us already up on the glacier.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Survived hosting my first bridal shower yesterday!

Hello! Love all your input into your NZ trip. We are planning a trip to NZ in Feb and are thinking of the helihike but it puts us over budget so we are still discussing it. I had a question though – can you do self guided hikes on lower portions of the glacier?
Thanks! I know that you can do that at Franz Josef (I have a few photos of them doing that here). Not sure about at Fox Glacier, but if there’s any way you can find it in the budget to do the heliflight- make a way! It was probably the absolute favorite thing we did & provided the most amazing views. Happy planning & enjoy NZ!
