Cooking 101

Not that this will be a lesson, but it will be*MY* adventures in learning to cook. #41 on our 101 Things in 1001 Days was cook a new meal each week for a few weeks.

My first step is to make a list and commit to cooking one new meal a week. My standard staples that we eat waaaay too often for dinner are spaghetti, chicken, meatloaf, and hamburgers.

In the crock pot- chili & pot roast. I’ve made pot roast before, but I want to try a new recipe and make sure I’ve got it down.

Although tuna casserole is already my favorite, I would like to add Chicken Tortilla Casserole.

More chicken with a chicken soup and chicken Parmesan.

And to add a variety of meats, a pork tenderloin and a grilled/baked Salmon.

Hopefully I will get started on one of these new dishes this week.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Back from Florida with a great sun tan and lots of fun photos.

Ruby in Action

I had SO MUCH FUN at the park with Tony’s vizsla Ruby. She’s so energetic and social- running around, checking out everything, playing in the water, sprinting back to us.
Nothing is cuter than a dog shaking off!

She liked Zoe to chase the tennis ball, and then she would chase Zoe. She wasn’t too interseted in getting the ball herself, she just wanted to play with other dogs.

She’d run back and forth around the dog-bone shaped pond, checking out other dogs and occasionally wading in the water.

So adorable and expressive!

Near the end of the play-date when we’d worn her out a bit.

Not so good (yet) with catching the ball. Tony rescued her in February & he’s made lots of progress working with her the past few months.

Zoe is jealous of her long tail.

Get ready! Get set! Go….

The tongue hanging out was awesome.

And of course, she needed a bath when we left since she actually played in the dirt & water (unlike Zoe).

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Long weekends are awesome. Hope everybody has a great Memorial Day!

Zoe & Ruby Play

Zoe was playing with the tennis ball when Tony arrived at the park and she had her 2 minute crazy hello with him.
The really funny thing about the dogs was that Zoe would chase the ball, Ruby would chase Zoe, Zoe would stop chasing the ball. So…..that means Tony has to chase the ball and the dogs both chase him.
Then they realize Tony has come back with the ball & they both sprint back to us.

Zoe wasn’t much into getting dirty or even getting very wet. This was about as far in the water as she went last Saturday.

Poor Ruby wanted to play with Zoe so badly, but Zoe was just doing her own thing & ignoring Ruby the best she could.

They were both on alert waiting for Tony to throw the tennis ball again.

We got to one part of the park and they both smelled something.

This was the best group picture I could do.

Near the end of our play date when both dogs are slowing down.

Near the end of our park hour, they are both finally more interested in me & my treats than they are with harassing each other. ;)

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: We’re headed out to the beach in sunny Florida today.

Zoe at the Dog Park

Last Saturday, we had a doggie play date at the new dog park about 20 minutes from my house. It’s a great big area, with a large pond, lots of room to run and some agility equipment.

Does anybody else’s Vizsla do this thing with their legs up in the air? I was trying to get Zoe to bring me that tennis ball, but she must not have liked the way it smelled.

There are always several tennis balls and other toys laying around, so I found one she agreed to chase for a few treats.

Zoe wasn’t too interested in socializing with the other dogs, but she did want to play catch with the tennis ball.

Love the big floppy ears when she runs. :)

Errrk! Brake check when she over runs the ball.

We had fun playing with the ball, waiting until Tony & Ruby showed up….

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: We’re off to Florida this afternoon to visit Stephanie!

Hunter’s Spring Baseball

I’ve been a bad sister this year, and I haven’t made it to many of Hunter’s baseball games. He started the Spring season when I was bogged down with studying and putting the finishing touches on my presentation in Detroit. They are undefeated this season & I made it out to the first game of their play-off’s last Friday night when H was out of town.
It was all great and dandy till the sun set, and then I couldn’t crank my ISO up high enough or keep the shutter speed up enough to get many action shots.
If I remember correctly, Hunter got on base every time he went to bat.
He’s one of the fastest runners on his team.
Safely to first, where Dad is the coach.

Once he gets on base, it’s pretty easy for him to steal 2nd & 3rd because he’s so quick & it’s hard for the other team to get him.

They did try to pick him off though!

There he goes- stealing 2nd!

And quickly he arrives at 3rd base.

And his first score of the evening. I think he scored a few other times.

Yea for my good action photo!

Ok- this was really bad. One of the players (accidentally) charged the catcher in his excitement to get to home plate. It’s VERY against the rules and normally you get ejected from the game. Since we didn’t have an extra players though, the ump decided that he couldn’t play 1 inning. So we were down a player in the outfield & he was automatically out when it was his turn to bat.

So we get to the next inning, and I snag a cute picture of Hunter while the teams are sorting out the batting order and number of outs. Of course Hunter gets on base….

And he’s quickly sliding back into home plate again. Now, the next batter up was the batter before the “automatic out” & we already had 2 outs. So no matter what, this guy got to bat & they just told him to keep going no matter what because it didn’t really matter if he got out.

Thanks to a great hit and several throwing errors on the part of the other team, he was able to round all the bases for an in-the park home run. The crowd went wild & you can see how excited this kid was to score. The team went on to win, and they also won their next play off game on Tuesday night. The last game is tonight, so good luck Hunter!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: We made it through the night with 2 dogs!
